Josias could always make me smile. It didn't matter the situation, he could do it with jokes, his smile, and his laugh.

Before every game josias and I would warm up with a few hits and lifts to get ready. We were bash brothers out there me at 7 and him at 8. Puma was my favorite play to run with him. Whether I got the ball or he did we would drive each other through the defense (although it may have been hard to get near him with the flailing hands haha).I will always remember when the trinity university rugby coach (one of the best college rugby teams in the world) watched jo and said that we all should follow his example and play like him. As he used josias for each drill, jo just looked up with a big old smile on the his face, slightly embarrassed. He was a leader for the team on and off the field.
Josias was a true inspiration to all those who played on the field with him. I will never ever forget running up the field with josias by my side. Whether it was sitting next to him on the bus rides singing "love is gone" or warming up for gametime josias was a blast and a pleasure to be next to. He will be greatly missed, a truly heroic symbol in all of our lives and an example to live by.

Every time I attempt to articulate how great of a person Josias was, how amazing our times together were, or how deep my love for him is, I come up short. There are no words to fully capture the essence of the man that is Josias A. Sterling. From the moment I met Josias, in 7th grade, we instantly became the best of friends. Whether it was figuring out how we were getting home to running around together at several proms, college tours or just simple days of relaxing at his house, we were brothers, always there for one another. There are far too many memories in my head for one to stand out in particular. But his luminous smile, his heartfelt laugh, his humility, and love for life are the things that remain in my mind. I love and miss you dearly, Josias, and feel your presence always. Watch over us as we continue to live our lives not just for the greater glory of God, but for you as well.

It's so difficult to write this, knowing that your absence is permanent and that the road to healing will last my lifetime, but I remain hopeful. Josias, your presence has surrounded me since you physically left, and I must thank you for keeping me grounded and staying with me always. I love you so much and I miss your smile. I miss being able to hear that cackle of yours; it never got old. Josias, I hope you know that I've been trying my best to live like you and be like you; you lived a life of purpose because you lived a life for others. Thanks so much for being with me now, and showing me how to live and love. I love you! <3!
